With Atlanta being deemed the up-and-coming Hollywood, there are limited resources in the city for actors, writers, and creative individuals alike. So when Terri J. Vaughn and business partner Shannon K. Nash opened The Green Room Actor's Lounge, Atlanta got a well-deserved addition to the growing artistic and foodie community. The Green Room is a multifaceted restaurant, bookstore, café, and actors lounge. This trendy new eatery fuses the worlds of food and art together in order to provide a comfortable space where Atlantans can dine on delectable treats and enjoy a splash of theater. Upon my arrival at The Green Room, I was warmly greeted by the staff and introduced to The Green Room’s “production team” which included Robyn starring as the managing barista, Chef Jaclyn as the food extraordinaire and Ms. Terri J. Vaughn as the lead owner. To start my dining experience at The Green Room I sampled the Mango Tea ($3.49) which was delicious. According to the barista Robyn, The Green Room’s motto is that each and every patron is “a star,” and that drinks, especially smoothies, are made customize to suit the consumer. Some smoothies on the menu share titles with movies such as the Shrek Smoothie ($3.49) and the Slum Dog Millionaire Smoothies ($3.49). After my smoothie I indulged in the rich and flavorful Corn Chowder ($3.99); and must I say it was fabulous! And much to my surprise, I learned that the Corn Chowder is made fresh daily, as are most of the dishes offered at The Green Room. After my chowder, I tried the Roasted Tomato, Goat Cheese, and Mozzarella Torte ($4.49). Needless to say this dish was my absolute favorite. The goat cheese highlighted the robust tomato flavor perfectly. The Green Room menu also showcases different sandwich combos ranging from $6.99-$9.99. I had the pleasure of tasting the Creamy Chicken Salad Sandwich on a buttery croissant which was just as tantalizing as my torte. Feeling stuffed and satisfied, I forced myself to try one of The Green Room’s many sweet treats. The Green Room’s menu offers decadent desserts like cupcakes by “Gimme Some Suga Bakery” and moist chocolate brownies. I tried the cookies and crème cupcake, kiddie cupcake, and the brown buttered caramel cupcake ( 3 for $2.50). I felt like a child at a birthday party, the sugary delights had me full but I wanted more. My absolute favorite dessert was the red velvet brownie complete with cream cheese frosting and nuts ($2.49). The heavenly chocolate put a smile on my face, I mean who doesn’t like red velvet especially in a brownie! There wasn’t a dish that I didn’t like here but what really makes this eatery extraordinary is the ambiance. Just being here I felt inspired. The lounge hosts a stage where at any moment of the day you can catch a classic movie. The books range from autobiographies from entertainers to Ms. Vaughn’s favorite. The Green Room acts as a catalyst for our growing community by having endless resources such as acting classes by working professionals, book signings, open mic, industry night, and exclusive magazines such as “Backstage” and “Variety”. So needless to say, I found my new favorite bookstore/bakery! If you are looking for a creative place to take a date where you can indulge in more than just food I highly suggest The Green Room!
