It's official! I've found Atlanta's Sexiest Restaurant. Tantra Atlanta is a swanky restaurant located in the heart of Buckhead. The restaurant’s website was 100% accurate when they described Tantra’s atmosphere as "a world of alluring aromas, sensual cuisine, and playful libations." After being greeted by the complimentary valet service at Tantra I immediately fell in love with the patio area. The wicker couches and candle-lit tables provide for the perfect atmosphere to share cocktails and appetizers on a warm summer day with your friends. I can already see myself relaxing on the patio area during one of Tantra’s great happy hour specials (see below for happy hour details). When you enter Tantra's main dining room you are instantly thrust into a plush realm of excitement and creativity. The interior design of Tantra sets it apart from other restaurants in Atlanta. The tables sparkle and architecture on the wall gives a modern and sophisticated vibe. My guest and I made reservation at Tantra for a Friday evening, and were seated instantly when we arrived. Tantra provides an intimate dining experience for couples looking to wine and dine each other as well as great group seating and an exclusive private dining area for anyone celebrating a birthday or special occasion. My guest and I were seated at a cute intimate booth in Tantra’s main dining room. We started our evening with the Jumbo Lump Crab and Herb Kuku appetizer ($11). It was one large lump crab cake served with tomato, shaved asparagus, and orange verjuice yogurt. I am a harsh critic on crab cakes and I can assure you that this appetizer choice will not disappoint your taste buds. To liven up the party my guest and I had to try one of Tantra’s famous champagne infused cocktails. I decided to try the Vanessa ($10) which was champagne, fresh raspberries and pernod. It was light and flavorful, the perfect complement for my appetizer. For dinner my guest and I were in awe of all the different entrée selections offered at Tantra. From the wide array of seafood, lamb, chicken, and steak selections we really had a hard time making a decision. My server (who was fabulous by the way) suggested I step outside of my culinary box and sample the Grilled Ostrich Filet ($32) served with pan roasted mushrooms, caramelized cipolini onions, and citrus juice. Now when you first see that price you might be discouraged but I promise you this entrée was worth every penny! I had never had ostrich but came to learn that it taste very similar to beef but doesn’t have all of the extra fat collected on it like a steak may. I am now a huge ostrich fan and will definitely re-order it the next time I am at Tantra. The mushrooms that came with the ostrich entrée were superb! In fact they were so good I ordered an additional side of Pan seared mushrooms ($5) for the table to share. My guest ordered the Grilled Lamb Loin Chops ($25) that were topped with barley and English pea risotto, sage oil, and sumac jus. Three large chops came in the order and my guest and I cleaned the plate. It wasn’t that we were extremely hungry – the food was just THAT good!! My guest and I wanted to sample some of the scrumptious side dishes at Tantra so we ordered a serving of Whipped Golden Potatoes ($4) and Grilled Asparagus ($5) to share. Our server let me know that the potatoes were made fresh every day with a special cream and churning technique that allowed for the perfect whipped potato. Out of the three side dishes we sampled the mushrooms and potatoes were my favorites! At this point in my dining experience I was stuffed, but my guest has an extreme sweet tooth and Tantra’s dessert menu was extremely tempting. My guest sampled the Lemon Scented Italian Doughnuts that were severed warm with a coffee glaze and crème anglaise ($6). The doughnuts were soft and fluffy and fried to perfection. Small enough to pop in your mouth, but be careful – they are so tasty you might eat the whole serving!! The Warm White Chocolate Cake ($6) caught my eye because I had never had a molten cake with white chocolate. When the dessert arrived my mouth started watering immediately. It was topped with fresh raspberries, blueberries, and lavender ice that were all drizzled with a sweet caramel sauce. Ah-may-zing!!! If you do anything in life you must try this dessert. It will leave you speechless. Not only does Tantra provide a sexy and sophisticated ambiance but it also brings new life to your taste buds with its eclectic menu. Tantra is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants in Atlanta. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a restaurant with a sexy and upscale ambiance or a group looking to dine in a festive and flavorful environment!
