  • Review:
I have been in search of a quality seafood restaurant inside the perimeter that wasn't overly expensive and extremely stuffy. I was pleased to dine at Goin Coastal Seafood because it was located right in the heart of Virginia Highlands but still provided a romantic and relaxed ambiance. My date and I were pleased to see that the restaurant provided valet seeing as parking on Virginia Ave can be tricky at times. We choose to visit Goin Coastal late on a Thursday evening hoping it wouldn't be very crowded. This idea kind of backfired on us because the restaurant was all out of their Whole Maine Lobster ($25). I was really in the mood for lobster but I guess you test your luck when you arrive late to seafood restaurants seeing as they usually have a limited supply of their fresh catch items. Nonetheless there was plenty for us to choose from on the menu. We started our meal off with the Coastal Crab & Shrimp Dip ($10) which was a tasty mixture of wild American shrimp & blue crab baked with a variety of creamy cheeses and served with toasted French bread. I am a sucker for all things cheesy and this crab dip definitely hit the spot. Next we ordered our main dishes; although I was still sad about the Whole Maine Lobster I decided upon another Fresh Catch of the day and ordered the Steal Head Trout ($22) with a side of herb roasted new potatoes and collard greens. My guest tried the Lobster Mac & Cheese ($21) which was a creamy fontina, gruyere, and cheddar cheese macaroni and cheese dish tossed with Maine Lobster. I do have to say that the chunks of lobster in that dish were plump and filling. You are not short changed when you order that dish. My date's Mac & Cheese was accompanied by the Cucumber, Feta, and Tomato Salad. During our dinner our kind waitress brought us a sample of the refreshing watermelon salad that was newly introduced to the menu. It was the perfect side item for a hot summer day, refreshing and sweet to taste! I was impressed by Goin Coastal's intimate dining room. The restaurant also offered bar seating for those dropping in for a casual lunch. I will return to Goin Coastal, but this time I’ll make my reservation before 9pm! :-)

Until Next Time....Eat Your ♥ Out!
